Beyond Antivirus: Centralizing PC Security Management

The Limits of Individual PC Security Checks

Antivirus software provides essential protection against malware and other cyber threats, but effective PC security requires more than protecting each device individually. As the number of managed PCs increases, security teams need a centralized view of the security status across the entire endpoint environment.

This includes identifying PCs that require Windows or software updates, detecting devices that do not comply with organizational security policies, and confirming whether previously identified issues have been remediated.

When these security assessments are performed individually, it becomes difficult to maintain consistent visibility across the environment and to coordinate remediation efficiently. Security teams may spend significant time identifying affected systems, tracking issues, and verifying whether identified issues have been resolved.

A scalable PC security model therefore requires centralized management that can assess PC security status, identify systems that require action, support remediation, and continuously track the results across the organization.

Core Visibility Requirements for PC Security Operations

Centralized security management should give security teams clear visibility into the following areas across the endpoint environment.

Centralized Management Connects Visibility with Action

As endpoint environments grow, managing PC security individually becomes difficult to sustain. Centralized management gives security teams a more scalable way to oversee security operations across the organization.

Instead of focusing only on current status, it brings monitoring, remediation, and follow-up into a continuous management process.

With centralized management, administrators can monitor endpoint status across the organization, identify systems that require attention, and manage follow-up actions from a single console.

What Capabilities Are Needed for Centralized PC Security Management?

Effective centralized PC security management requires endpoint visibility and policy control, patch management, and security assessment with remediation.

Centralized Endpoint Visibility and Policy Control

Security teams need centralized visibility across the endpoint environment and a consistent way to apply security policies. This requires a management layer that brings endpoint security operations and policy control into a single environment.

AhnLab EPP Management provides a web-based console for centrally managing V3 and other AhnLab endpoint security solutions. Administrators can monitor endpoint security operations and apply consistent policies across the organization.

Coordinated Patch Management

Timely patching reduces the attack surface by addressing vulnerabilities in operating systems and software. However, patch status can vary across endpoints due to differences in system configurations and update schedules. Managing patch status becomes increasingly difficult as the number of managed devices increases.

AhnLab EPP Patch Management (EPM) provides centralized visibility into OS and software patch status across PCs, servers, and other endpoints. Administrators can monitor coverage and deployment progress, then enforce patch policies tailored to the organization’s environment.

Security teams no longer need to ask each user whether updates were installed. They can identify the devices that need updates and manage the required patches directly.

Security Assessment and Remediation

Endpoint security management also requires regular assessment of device configurations and security controls. Organizations need to check whether PCs meet requirements for screen locks, accounts, system settings, and other security policies.

AhnLab EPP Security Assessment (ESA) assesses each PC’s security posture, identifies vulnerable systems, and supports automated remediation. Its Assessment & Remediation process links identified issues with the remediation needed to address them.

Security teams can use these assessment results to identify PCs that require attention, apply remediation, and track the status.

Unified Management for Endpoint Security

Centralized management, patch management, and security assessment are closely linked in day-to-day endpoint operations. Managing these functions separately can make it harder to maintain consistent visibility and policies across the environment.

AhnLab EPP brings multiple endpoint security functions together through One Agent and a Single Management Console. Administrators can manage antivirus, patch management, security assessment, remediation, and other endpoint security functions within a unified environment.

AhnLab EPP Architecture

Using a single agent and web-based console simplifies endpoint security administration by reduciDevice DEng the need to manage each solution separately. It also gives administrators a more consistent way to manage security settings and operations across the endpoint environment.
