AhnLab announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) to strengthen phishing crime response through advanced malicious app analysis.
The signing ceremony took place at the meeting room of the KNPA’s Integrated Response Unit for Telecommunications Financial Fraud in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Attendees included Suk-Kyoon Kang, CEO of AhnLab, and Chang-bae Oh, Head of the Integrated Response Unit for Telecommunications Financial Fraud at the KNPA
As malicious apps continue to be used in voice phishing and other cyber-enabled crimes, AhnLab and the KNPA agreed to cooperate on crime response and prevention by sharing relevant intelligence and combining their analysis capabilities.
Under the agreement, the KNPA will provide AhnLab with malicious app data collected during investigations. AhnLab will analyze the data to extract actionable threat intelligence, including command-and-control (C2) infrastructure operated by attackers, and share its findings with the agency. The KNPA will use the intelligence to track attacker activity and infrastructure, strengthen its response to phishing crimes, and help prevent them from spreading further.
AhnLab will also strengthen protection against emerging threats by applying the malicious app intelligence and analysis findings to V3 Mobile Security, its free mobile security solution. The update will help users detect and block malicious apps used in phishing campaigns more quickly and accurately, helping stop attacks before they can cause harm.
“As voice phishing techniques involving malicious apps grow more sophisticated by the day, we expect AhnLab’s threat analysis capabilities and response expertise to make a meaningful contribution to preventing phishing crimes,” said Chang-bae Oh, Head of the Integrated Response Unit for Telecommunications Financial Fraud at the KNPA. “To protect the public, the two organizations will actively share their resources and expertise and continue working closely together.”
AhnLab CEO Suk-Kyoon Kang said, “Guided by AhnLab’s vision of ‘More Security, More Freedom,’ we recognize protecting users from a wide range of cyber threats as an important corporate social responsibility. Through our cooperation with the KNPA, we will contribute to phishing crime response and prevention and help raise the overall level of cybersecurity across society.”
